Restoring the Health of Mother Earth
The PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness, Nourishment and Amelioration of Mother Earth (PM-PRANAM) aims to encourage States and Union Territories to promote the use of alternative fertilizers and balanced use of chemical fertilizers.
Purpose of the Scheme: - Reduce Subsidy Burden: To lower the high government subsidy on chemical fertilizers (like Urea). - Soil Health: To prevent the degradation of soil fertility caused by excessive and imbalanced use of chemicals. - Promote Organics: To encourage the adoption of Bio-fertilizers and Organic fertilizers.
How it Works: - The scheme has no separate budget. - Instead, 50% of the fertilizer subsidy savings by a State is passed back to that State as a grant. - These funds are used for promoting alternative fertilizers and building other community assets at the village/block level.
