A comprehensive scheme aimed at ensuring remunerative prices to farmers for their produce.
Protecting the Income of Our Annadatas
Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) is an umbrella scheme aimed at ensuring that farmers get remunerative prices for their produce, as announced in the Union Budget. It integrates multiple pricing support systems to provide a safety net for farmers.
Three Major Components: 1. Price Support Scheme (PSS): Physical procurement of pulses, oilseeds, and copra by Central Nodal Agencies with help from state governments. 2. Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS): For oilseeds, farmers are paid the difference between the MSP and the actual market price, avoiding physical procurement. 3. Pilot of Private Procurement & Stockist Scheme (PPPS): Involving the private sector on a pilot basis for the procurement of oilseeds.
Key Benefits: - MSP Guarantee: Ensures that farmers actually receive the Minimum Support Price. - Market Stability: Helps in stabilizing market prices during bumper harvests. - Flexibility: Multiple mechanisms allow the government to intervene effectively based on the specific crop and region.
Impact on Farmers: This scheme reduces the dependence on middlemen and protects farmers from distress sales when market prices drop due to excess supply. It is specifically designed to cover crops like pulses and oilseeds where procurement was traditionally low.
