NMSA aims to make agriculture more productive, sustainable, and climate-resilient through integrated farming and soil health management.
Resilient Farming with NMSA
The National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) is designed to address issues related to climate change and its impact on the agricultural sector. It focuses on promoting "Integrated Farming Systems", "Water Use Efficiency", and "Soil Health Management".
Key Objectives: - Climate Change Adaptation: Developing crop varieties and techniques that withstand extreme weather. - Soil Health Management: Promoting the use of Soil Health Cards and organic fertilizers. - Rainfed Area Development: Increasing productivity in areas dependent on rainfall through crop diversification. - On-Farm Water Management: Enhancing water use efficiency through micro-irrigation.
Sub-Missions of NMSA: 1. Rainfed Area Development (RAD): Integrated farming systems to minimize risks from climatic variability. 2. Soil Health Management (SHM): Establishing soil testing labs and promoting balanced use of fertilizers. 3. Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY): Promotion of organic farming. 4. Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture: Monitoring, Modeling and Networking (CCSAMMN): Knowledge sharing on climate-smart agriculture.
Benefits for Farmers: - Financial assistance for integrated farming (combining crops with livestock/horticulture). - Subsidies for building water harvesting structures like farm ponds. - Support for adopting precision farming technologies.
How to Participate: Farmers can coordinate with the district agricultural officer to benefit from various components of RAD and SHM.
