Increasing production of rice, wheat, pulses, and coarse cereals through area expansion and productivity enhancement.
Enhancing India’s Agricultural Productivity
The National Food Security Mission (NFSM) was launched with the target of increasing production of rice, wheat, pulses, and coarse cereals. The mission focuses on sustainable productivity and area expansion to ensure food security for India's growing population.
Multi-Pronged Strategy: - Seed Support: Distribution of high-yielding variety (HYV) seeds and hybrids at subsidized rates. - Soil Management: Promotion of micronutrients, bio-fertilizers, and soil health improvement techniques. - Farm Machinery: Financial assistance for modern tools like rotavators, seed drills, and sprayers. - Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Teaching farmers environmentally friendly ways to manage crop pests.
Core Benefits to Farmers: 1. Improved Yields: Access to better seeds and technology translates to higher production. 2. Reduced Costs: Subsidies on inputs and machinery lower the overall investment. 3. Skill Upgradation: Demonstration plots and farmers' field schools (FFS) provide hands-on training. 4. Focused Crops: Special emphasis on Pulses and Nutri-cereals to improve nutritional security.
How to Participate: Farmers can contact their Block Development Officer (BDO) or District Agriculture Officer to learn about ongoing NFSM demonstrations and subsidy programs in their area.
