Overview Late Blight is caused by the oomycete Phytophthora infestans. It is famous for causing the Irish Potato Famine and remains a major global threat to potato production, causing rapid plant death and tuber rot.

Key Symptoms - Water-Soaked Spots: Small, water-soaked spots appear on leaves, expanding rapidly into large dark brown lesions. - White Mold: Under humid conditions, a white, downy fungal growth appears on the undersides of leaves. - Tuber Rot: Tubers develop a reddish-brown, dry, leathery rot that penetrates the flesh.

Management 1. Clean Seed: Plant only certified, disease-free seed tubers. 2. Chemical Spray: Apply Mancozeb (2g/L) or Metalaxyl + Mancozeb (2.5g/L) at first sign of disease.
