Overview Groundnut Bud Necrosis is caused by the Groundnut bud necrosis virus (GBNV) and is spread by thrips (Frankliniella schultzei). It causes severe yield losses by stopping plant development early.
Key Symptoms - Ring Spots: Chlorotic ring spots appear on young leaves. - Necrosis: The terminal bud undergoes necrosis (death) and turns dark brown, bending downward.
Management 1. Intercropping: Intercrop groundnut with pearl millet or maize to create a barrier for thrips. 2. Chemical Control: Spray Dimethoate 30 EC (2 ml/L of water) to control the thrips vector.
